What would the Prophet ﷺ do if he saw this image?
While the Prophet ﷺ loved the entire Ummah, it is clear that Yemen had a special place in our Prophet’s heart. Countless times, he has reminded us to reflect upon the blessed land of Yemen and its noble people. In fact, the Prophet ﷺ himself said:
’The best of men are the men of Yemen, belief is Yemeni and I am Yemeni…’
[Ahmad].
Yemen has been a hub for so much greatness in the history of Islam. It has produced some of the best scholars and some of the most wonderful people. There are two whole surahs in the Qur’an that are dedicated to this land, Surah Al Ahqaf, and Al Saba. Even the very clothing that our Prophet ﷺ wore was Yemeni.
Not only is Yemen important to the past and present of Islam, it is also important to our future:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
They Need You More Than Ever
Yemen is the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Over 12.4 million children in Yemen are in need of lifesaving aid to survive. 1 out of 3 children under the age of 5 (400,000) may starve to death if they do not receive urgent treatment. (UNICEF, 2021)
Countless children are fighting to survive hunger, while at the same time dealing with other crises such as: lack of clean water, disease outbreaks, bombings, and general safety away from soldiers.
It is no surprise that one child dies every 10 minutes from preventable causes (like hunger).
This is Meshal. He is only 4 years old and he is fighting malnutrition. As a result, Meshal is very skinny and his bones and ribs are bulging out of his body. On his fingers, there were wounds caused by him chewing them out of extreme hunger.
Meshal’s mother, Mariam, camps in a makeshift tent that is 20 miles from the nearest hospital. In order for her to get to the hospital to receive treatment and nourishment for her child, she has to walk the entire distance (almost 7 hours).
Meshal is just one of the 400,000 children that are one step away from dying of hunger if they do not urgently receive our help.
We must ask ourselves,
Is it okay for you to ignore this group of people?
We get it, the politics are complicated and it may seem like there is too much history for us to understand.
But is it enough of an excuse for us to simply walk away and say: “Well, there’s too much in the political sphere of this that I can’t begin to grasp, therefore I’m not going to get involved in doing anything in regards to charity?”
Whether or not you’re making a lot of money, is that really an excuse that we have to make before Allah (SWT)?
Do we really have the ability to walk away from this and say that sponsoring JUST 1 food basket for a child in Yemen is something that’s beyond our capacity?
They were in the duʿā of the Prophet ﷺ even without their country and their people being ravaged the way that they are right now. They were in the concern of our Prophet ﷺ.
Are they in our duā or our concern?
This is a call to connect yourself to the people of Yemen
Through our registered charity partner on the ground, Human Concern International, we have the opportunity today to take care of one child’s food and water, so at least they don’t have to worry about that as they try to survive the ongoing conflict.
By becoming a monthly donor, not only will you be connecting yourself to this child and putting your heart in the right place, but you will also be putting your monthly salary in the right place. On top of this, you will also get:
Barakah in your income
Protection for you and your loved ones from harm and calamity
Reward and protection for the afterlife
Rewards for following the sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ and his companions
Just as you are reminding yourself to pay for your kid’s school or their food, their drink,
just like you have to pay our own electricity bills and make sure that you have access to clean water yourself, your family in Yemen will have access to these things as well.
Every month when you see that donation in your statement, you’ll picture this child in Yemen that YOU saved, and you’ll realize:
It’s not just growing your good deeds.
It’s expanding your own humanity.
It’s also expanding your own human capacity,
Which means that it’s expanding your Iman (Faith).
So let’s not stop supporting them, at least with their food and their water. Because it is a crime in today’s world -not just that bombs get dropped on the people who did nothing to deserve them, but it’s a crime in this world where there are so many resources that many millions of children can die because they don’t have access to basic food to survive.
That is a crime of which we are all complicit if we don’t do our part.
